Newark maternity home aims to give new moms safe home, life skills

As she was earning her degree in social work, Mary Dow saw a need to have for safe housing in Licking County for single, expecting women of all ages. 

Two decades following finishing her diploma, Esther’s Area of Grace opened in Newark with a ribbon chopping ceremony on Friday.

“It was my stress for ladies who have unexpected pregnancies and are solitary and unsupported by whoever — family, friends,” Dow explained in a latest job interview with The Advocate. “Just to have that safe and sound household surroundings. A whole lot of gals occur out of abusive homes, associations, couch browsing, homelessness. It (the property) should supply that in this spot and give them a prospect to father or mother and be harmless and find out some parenting techniques, find out some life expertise, get their schooling a little little bit further, and get a very good job.”
