As the cost of food continues to rise, The Bellingham Herald compared prices for healthy foods online at local stores to identify low prices.
Prices at grocery stores have continued to rise throughout 2022, with food prices 10.1% higher in May 2022 compared to May 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
This increase is supposed to continue throughout the year, as the USDA predicts grocery prices will increase between 7%-8% in 2022.
These increases have caused people to find more ways to save on groceries, such as couponing, hunting for deals and checking if they are eligible for food stamp programs.
For those who want to live a healthy lifestyle, affording healthier foods such as avocados, cauliflower, apricots and more can be difficult as produce prices rise.
