New Delhi:

India reported 43,071 new cases of coronavirus and 955 related deaths on Sunday, according to the latest health ministry update. This increased the country’s cumulative tally to 3,05,45,433 and 4,02,005 fatalities. The active caseload has declined to 4,85,350 while recovery rate increased to 97.09%. Over 52,000 patients recovered during the last 24 hours as the daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 52nd consecutive day, the ministry said.

A day earlier, 44,111 new cases were reported, besides 738 deaths. India crossed a grim milestone of 4 lakh Covid deaths on Friday – the third after US and Brazil.

Queen Elizabeth To Honour UK Health Workers For Covid Service

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth will award the UK’s state-run National Health Service (NHS) the country’s highest civilian honour in recognition of health workers’ service during the pandemic, the government announced Monday.

The award of the George Cross, which is the civilian equivalent of Britain’s Victoria Cross for extraordinary military heroism, comes amid outcry from medical professionals over pay and working conditions in the NHS, which has been pushed close to breaking point during the pandemic.

“This award recognises all NHS staff, past and present, across all disciplines and all four nations,” the Queen, 95, said in a personal message accompanying the award.

“Collectively, over more than seven decades, they have supported the people of our country with courage, compassion and dedication, demonstrating the highest standards of public service.

Assam records 1,213 new Covid cases and 20 deaths
Assam’s Covid tally rose to 5,17,194 on Sunday as 1,213 more people tested positive for the infection. Twenty deaths over the past 24 hours took the state’s death count to 4,652, a health bulletin said. Kamrup Metropolitan district, where capital Dispur and major city Guwahati are located, registered the highest number of new cases at 140. The state currently has 22,155 active cases.

Minister visits Covid vaccine manufacturing units in Gujarat
Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday visited the Covid vaccine manufacturing facilities of Zydus Cadila and Hester Biosciences in Gujarat. “Visited Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad today. @ZydusUniverse is the developer of the ”ZyCov-D” which will be the world’s first DNA-based Covid-19 vaccine,” he tweeted. In another tweet, the minister said that he assured all government assistance to vaccine manufacturing company Hester Sciences for the production of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

Tamil Nadu records 3,867 Covid cases and 72 deaths
Tamil Nadu recorded 3,867 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 24.96 lakh. 72 deaths in the last 24 hours took the death count to 33,006. According to a medical bulletin, 4,382 people were discharged today, taking the total recoveries to 24,27,988. The number of active cases in the state stands at 35,294.

Maharashtra reports 9,336 new Covid cases and 123 deaths, active cases now 1,23,225

Over 1 crore people in Odisha have received Covid jab
Odisha on Sunday achieved a milestone by inoculating over 1 crore people, out of the state’s 4.5 crore population, with at least one dose of Covid vaccine, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family WelfarePK Mohapatra said. According to information available in the CoWIN portal, as many as 1,00,06,081 people in the state have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 22,10,303 received both doses. A total of 1,22,16,384 doses have been administered,

Fully vaccinated tourists can now visit Sikkim
People who have taken both doses of coronavirus vaccine can now visit Sikkim from July 5. The state government on Sunday lifted the temporary ban on the entry of visitors from other parts of the country following a dip in fresh coronavirus cases, news agency PTI reported. The Sikkim government had prohibited the entry of tourists since March this year following a surge in Covid cases.

Over 1.61 lakh Covid vaccine doses administered in Delhi
Over 1.61 lakh coronavirus vaccine doses were administered in Delhi on Saturday. The city has provided 83.73 lakh vaccine jabs since the immunisation exercise started on January 16. So far, over 19 lakh people have received both the doses.

Ladakh Records Nearly 98% COVID-19 Recovery Rate, 14 New Cases
Ladakh reported 14 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday while no related deaths were reported in the union territory for the 4th straight day. The total number of active cases in Ladakh stood at 244. The union territory has registered 202 Covid-related deaths so far with the worst-hit Leh accounting for 144 fatalities followed by 58 in Kargil district. Leh district recorded recovery of 16,253 persons out of the total 16,607 Covid patients, while 3,416 people were cured out of the total 3,508 in Kargil district.

Russia Records 25,142 New COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hours
Russia registered 25,142 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 5,610,941 on Sunday. Moscow registered the highest number of new cases in this period — 7,624, the Moscow region had second highest number with 2,696, St, Petersburg third highest with 1,784. 663 related deaths were recorded across the country in the same period, 111 of them in Moscow while 15,484 people were discharged from hospital in Russia with full recovery.

Puducherry Logs 172 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, Overall Tally Rises To 1,17,959
Puducherry reported 172 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 1,17,959 on Sunday. The death count stood at 1,761. The new cases were spread over Puducherry (137), Karaikal(23), Yanam (5) and Mahe (7). Currently, the number of active cases stands at 2,006. As many as 272 patients recovered and were discharged in the last 24 hours with which the cumulative recoveries stood at 1,14,192 on Sunday.

Andaman And Nicobar Islands Report Three New COVID-19 Cases
The union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported only three new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 7,478. With this, the archipelago now has only 20 active COVID-19 cases. The Nicobar district of the union territory is now COVID-19 free. Five more persons recuperated from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,330. The death count remained at 128 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours.

475 New COVID-19 Cases In Maharashtra’s Thane, 13 More Deaths
Thane added 475 new COVID-19 cases which took the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 5,34,011. The virus claimed the lives of 13 more people, pushing the death count in the district to 10,733. The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane stood at two per cent.

COVID-19 India News: Arunachal Pradesh Reports 365 New Cases, No Fresh Deaths

Arunachal Pradesh’s COVID-19 tally rose to 36,937 as 365 more people tested positive for the infection, a senior health official said on Sunday, according to news agency PTI. The COVID-19 death count in the frontier state remained at 176 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said. The state now has 3,057 active COVID-19 cases, said State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa.

As many as 272 patients were cured of the disease on Saturday, taking the total number of recoveries in the northeastern state to 33,704, Mr Jampa said. The COVID-19 recovery rate now is 91.25 per cent while the active percentage stands at 8.28 and the positivity rate at 7.27 per cent, the official said.

COVID-19 India News: Mizoram Now Has 3,897 Active Cases; Death Count At 95
Mizoram reported 243 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the cumulative caseload to 21,246 in the state, informed the state Department of Information and Public Relations, reported news agency ANI. There are 3,897 active cases in the state. A total of 17,254 people have recovered from the infection. The COVID-19 death count in the state stands at 95, while the positivity rate is at 6.75 per cent. The cumulative tally of positive COVID-19 cases in India stands at 3,05,02,362, including 2,96,05,779 recoveries, 4,01,050 deaths and 4,95,533 active cases.

India reported 43,071 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload has declined to 4,85,350, and now comprise 1.59% of the total cases. 52,299 patients have recovered during the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to  2,96,58,078. The recovery rate has increased to 97.09%. The daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 52nd consecutive day, according to health ministry.

The weekly positivity rate remains below 5%, currently at 2.44%. The daily positivity rate at 2.34%, less than 5% for 27 consecutive days. The  testing capacity has been substantially ramped up – 41.82 crore tests total conducted, the ministry said in a release. 35.12 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive, it said.

Over eight lakh vaccine doses were administered on Saturday in Maharashtra till 9 pm, the highest in a single day so far in the state, Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray tweeted. Maharashtra has administered 3,39,11,029 vaccine shots so far, including Saturday’s record for the state, he said.
Covid Third Wave May See Half The Cases Reported During 2nd Surge: Top Scientist

The third wave of coronavirus could hit the peak between October-November if Covid appropriate behaviour is not followed, but may see half the daily cases recorded during the second surge, according to a scientist of a government panel tasked with modelling of COVID-19 cases.

He, however, said the third wave could spread faster if any new virulent variant emerges.

Manindra Agarwal, involved in the “Sutra Model” or the mathematical projection of trajectory of COVID-19, also said the model has three scenarios–optimistic, intermediate and pessimistic–for the prediction of the third wave.

The Department of Science and Technology had last year formed the panel to forecast the surge of coronavirus cases using mathematical models.

Two Delhi Markets Closed Till July 6 For Violating Covid Norms

The Punjabi Basti and Janata market in Nangloi area of the national capital have been closed till July 6 for gross violation of Covid-appropriate behaviour, an official order said on Saturday.

The order issued by Sub Divisional Magistrate (Punjabi Bagh) Shalesh Kumar said general public/shopkeepers of these markets were not following the health protocol.

“Amid the possibility of a third wave of COVID-19 pandemic and considering gross violation of existing health protocol under Covid appropriate behaviour in these markets, the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Punjabi Bagh under DDMA Act, 2005, do hereby order for shutting down the entire market of Punjabi Basti and Janta Market, Nangloi from July 4 to 6,” it stated.
