Job Description
Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to assist the licensed dentists, dental hygienists, and the dental program manager, in the direct provision of primary care dental services in order to enhance the dental health care provided to our clients and to promote oral health care. This position requires the employee to assist dentists providing dental care to pediatric ages one to 20, pregnant women and adults who are HIV positive.
The selected candidate must be able to maintain appropriate hygiene and sterilization protocols to prevent contamination and spread of infection; prepare the treatment rooms; take x-rays; take impressions; perform laboratory duties; assist dentist with procedures by aspirating oral cavity, isolating teeth, retracting lips, cheeks, tongue and flaps. The selected candidate must also take vital signs; provide basic oral hygiene instructions; and record and maintain patient histories and dental procedures. This position also requires answering phones, scheduling appointments, inputting demographic info using the Patterson Eaglesoft Dental Program, confirming Medical Assistance coverage using EVS and greeting patients. The selected candidate must also assist in maintaining adequate dental supply inventories and any other dental duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience assisting a dentist in the performance of dental care. The selected candidate must have the ability to communicate fluently, in both the English and Spanish.
License: The selected candidate must be certified and possess an active Dental Radiation Technologist License from the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners (MSBDE). Candidates must be listed as a dental assistant qualified in general duties (DAQGD) on the roster of the MSBDE. Candidates must successfully complete CPR training.
Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license and have reliable transportation, as this position will travel between the North County and Annapolis Health Center.
