‘American Diagnosis’: Two Indigenous Students Share Their Path to Medicine

Episode 9: “Two Paths, Two Future Physicians”

In 1890, Dr. Charles Eastman turned the first Native individual to graduate from healthcare school in the United States. These days, 1 of his descendants, Victor Lopez-Carmen, is a 3rd-year college student at Harvard Professional medical School. He explained emotion isolated there.

“I did feel by itself. There was not any Native person all around me I could change to,” said Lopez-Carmen.
